    Hello APPLICANT,

Welcome to the third edition of the Alphagram – our newsletter for those interested in Chevening Awards to study in the UK in 2019/2020! Every month until the end of the year, we’ll be sending you top tips and reminders for submitting your application, as well as informing you of what is happening in the Chevening community.

You are receiving the Alphagram as you signed up to be informed about important information about Chevening.

In this edition, we’ll remind you of key dates in the application timeline, our class of 2018 tell you what they’re most excited about, and Gideon from Nigeria shares his advice for selecting the right course. You may have joined us for our Facebook Live Q&A session last week, but if you missed it, you can still watch the video on Facebook, and you can find another video explaining the online application system on our YouTube channel.

And, of course, please don’t forget that the deadline for Chevening Scholarships applications is at 12:00 GMT (midday UK time) on 6 November, so be sure to submit your strongest application before then! Next year, you could be packing your bags and heading to the UK having been #ChosenForChevening.

Please note, some fellowships have closing dates before 6 November; please check programme pages for more information on individual fellowships.

If you have any queries about the application process that cannot be answered by the guidance available, please contact us via the website.

Dates for your diary

Applications for Chevening Awards are still open.

Scholarship applications must be submitted by 6 November 2018 12:00 midday UK time.

In addition to scholarships, some Chevening Fellowship programmes are also open for applications. Fellowships are short courses that aim to provide opportunities to mid-career professionals already in positions of leadership and influence, looking to further develop in their field of expertise. To find out if fellowships are available to you, please visit your country/territory page on the website.

What I’m most excited about…

Prior to travelling to the UK, Chevening Scholars are invited to pre-departure events at their local embassy or high commission. During this event, they are typically asked about what they are most looking forward to when they move to the UK. As the class of 2018 start their courses, we look at some of the things they are most looking forward to this year:

‘I look forward to a world class learning experience and discovering new cultures and working with people from diverse backgrounds.’

Christian Ngang, Cameroon

‘I am looking forward to getting to know the British culture and the way the UK industry is structured.’

Albion Bylykbashi, Albania

‘I am looking forward to seeing, feeling, and experiencing a mixture of culture, the spirit of London, its fast-growing atmosphere of success and many centuries of history. And of course I hope to understand British humour.’

Aleksei Mikhalev, Russia

‘I am most eager to have first-hand experiences of the UK’s legendary cultural diversity in both academic and social contexts.’

Benjamin Kadia, Cameroon

‘I’m looking forward to getting my diploma, the Chelsea v Man Utd game, and understanding British characteristics.’

Kirill Melnikov, Russia

‘I’m looking forward to contributing to the varied student bodies and engaging with Chevening community. I aspire to build a strong relationship with this solid global network of young leaders.’

Omima Elkailani, Libya

‘I am looking forward to visiting the British archives and meeting new people from around the world!’

Altin Gjeta, Albania

‘I am looking forward to meeting Harry Potter!’

Sofya Dzharsaliya, Russia

top tips for selecting your courses

2017 Chevening Scholar Gideon Olanrewaju shares his top three tips for selecting your courses.

                               THIS COULD BE YOU

September and October is when most of our scholars arrive in the UK ready to commence their year-long master’s degree at their chosen universities. It is an exciting time for scholars as they start to discover a new country and culture, and new people to turn into life-long friends. It is also an exciting time for us as we get to know the newest class of future world leaders!

On social media, we start to see the #MyCheveningJourney hashtag used more and more frequently as scholars share their first impressions of the UK. Follow along with us on Twitter and Instagram to see more.
